Today is about facing fears. What am I afraid of? Lots of stuff. But lately...I feel especially afraid of not being able to do something I want to do, well.
Specifically, making a clothing pattern. Which I realize I'd likely be more confident about if I had any idea what I was doing. (Although I do watch a lot of Project Runway, which should count for something).
Except I couldn't sleep the other night because the ideas were just bursting from my head.
And I have always enjoyed figuring things out.
And so I have to try...
for sleeps sake if nothing else.
Here is a very partially finished, rough, rough first attempt...its a maternity top. It's been floating in my head for awhile. Hope it works!
My reaction you ask?

ah Danielle! I'm glad we can relate to each other about our silly fears.
ReplyDeleteI actually always think that you do things well (what comes to mind is your photos, cooking, sewing projects, decorating, offspring, etc). That is one thing I admire about you. This is a silly example, but I remember one time over the holidays that you showed me how to chop cilantro more efficiently (which I know realize is by making a chiffonade! fancy!). You always seem to know the little tricks that make things turn out better.
As a sidenote, BYU has a pattern making class that I was so close to signing up for on a few occasions. I often still wish I had (though I realize that I was getting to that point where I had taken so much ballet and sewing and French classes...that it was getting a tad excessive). Anyway, if you ever find a pattern making class (or good book?) I would love to learn with you. Or maybe you can just share your self-learned tricks.
Anyway enough about me..that maternity shirt looks great so far!)
Bellie I had a flat pattern design book from years ago at BYU.I will look for it . Sweet blouse,I am impressed with your pattern skills. XO, Mom
ReplyDeletelooks darling!
ReplyDeletewhich reminds me that i have a sewing/alteration question for you next time we talk.
Glad to see the dress-mannequin getting a workout. I remember when it was just a Christmas tree. XO

ReplyDeleteLooks great. We always need cuter maternity clothes out there. You are quite the seamstress.
ReplyDeleteAre you for real?! For all the wanna be seamstresses like myself out there I hope you don't get any sleep and pump out more cute patterns for all of us to try.
ReplyDeleteI just realized I was signed in as my husband. oops
ReplyDeleteI think most people spend most of their lives dreaming of things they wish they could do "some day." One of mine is writing a novel. I just went for it (much like you did your darling maternity top)...I don't really care if anyone finds it publish worthy (although that would be fun)--just like you don't care if you sell your maternity line to millions of retailers (although that would be fun). You just wanted to make it and so you did.
ReplyDeleteGood girl. I'm proud of your bravery.
Oh my land! Who are you?! I can only imagine waking up at night with ideas bursting forth. OK well I guess I have those wake up moments but it's usually about something lame that I forgot to add to my to-do list. What a gift. I am so impressed with your creativity and gumption.
ReplyDeleteBut you need to get a tad wackier to compete with the likes of Christian Siriano. ;)
P.S. Did that sound disparaging towards C.S.?? Because I did not intend that! For shame!
