Project Run And Play Week 2

Whew! I made it through another week of furious sewing. For those just joining, I am competing in Project Run and Play, a childrens' clothing design and sewing competition. This week's theme is "Boys Week", and I sure had fun making this little outfit for my little boy.

I tried to get him down for a nap all day so I could finish sewing those darn pants, and then once he finally went to sleep I had to wake him right up to get some photos before the sun went down. Poor kid. He wasn't happy about it. I wasn't wither. I was hoping to get some good shots of his pretty blue eyes to play off his blue pants. Too much to ask?

It looks like his shirt is too short in this picture, but I had pulled it up so you could see his belt.

Carving supplies for making the print on his shirt. It was easier than I thought it would be.

My paper mock up of a shawl collar. The first one didn't work but after a few tweaks number 2 was a success!

I am aware that some people will HATE this belt for a boy. I don't care. I love it. Fashion is all about taking risks right?

Couldn't get him to put his little mitts in those pockets.. Love a pocket though.

This is the only photo I have of the pants pattern making process. I really wanted to use a pair he already had as a guide, but I didn't want to take them apart because I like them so much so I contorted them around and carefully pinned tracing paper to them and employed various other maneuvers I learned in my pattern-making class to get the basic shape, then added pockets etc., and somehow it all actually worked! No time for a test pair. I started this pair at like 7 pm on Wednesday night.
