Bleeding My Own Blood

Photobucket

So while Avery nurses her hands are generally a flurry of activity. It started out with loving little strokes on my arm or back. "Ahh," I thought, "How sweet".

However, since she has gotten older and more curious, her soft strokes have turned into pinches and orifice exploring jabs. You will notice, if at any given time I am wearing a shirt which shows my collarbone, it usually has a whole bunch of tiny little scabs or red marks. Avery LOVES to pinch my neck. Sometimes she pinches her own neck if I won't let her pinch mine. Oh and those tiny fingers! Those tiny fingers love to find their way into my mouth or nose. With the mouth, she'll sneak that little pointer in ever so gingerly, and when you least expect it, she'll fish hook you. Yeow. And my nose. Well...that's a new one. Yesterday she got me good. After her little jab, I noticed my nose was running. Oh...nope--it was blood

But who could get mad at that sweet face. No but seriously. I am like, "Avery honey no no, that hurts mama," in like the nicest voice ever. I don't want her to be scared of nursing, and I don't want to yell at her. So endure it I will. For now.

I know our eyes look creepy. I have discovered some new photoshop actions and tend to use them a little heavy handedly at first. I am however too lazy to fix it at the moment, so you get us with crazy eyes. But crazy eyes go well with blood.

  1. both of my girls would curl their hands around my ribcage and then scratch viciously--so my ribs were always covered with half-healed wounds. ouch!

  2. Yowza! That's pretty impressive. Asher has just recently started reaching and grabbing during nursing. The worst he's done so far is pull my hair.

  3. Remember how Patti's daughter Riley was with GG ?"I want to pinch GG". She was always pinching great grandma's sagging flesh on her underarms.
I think your eyes look great.OX, Mom

  4. Sweet Dodge-ball quote. Ryan used to grab my glasses off my face and throw them as far as he could, pretty much any time I picked him up. Got me started wearing contacts. XO

  5. She sure looks sweet and innocent in that picture! If it wasn't for the river of blood it would be hard to believe. Ha ha. Oh, what a mother goes through.

  7. Is this what I have to look forward to? Ella likes to grab onto my clothes while she's eating, and every time she does I'm reminded of your Aunt Nancy. She told us that her son loved her "silkies" after months of fingering them while feeding.

    Hope you get feeling better.

  8. disheartened by your choice of Cupid over Travelocity Yard Gnome for her holloween costume last year I had almost sworn off costume consutlting, even removing it from my CV. However I cannot hide from my destiny, and am thinking baby cage fighter for 2009. xo-ryan

  10. Will she let you hold her hand while nursing? If I wasn't constantly holding Zoe's hand, she'd rip her ear off and my lips off.

By the way, the day after we talked about this, Zoe started to pinch. Just every once in a while.

  12. Way to go on still nursing. I had to keep Soren's hands filled with a toy so he wouldn't hurt me. But then he would just hit me with the toy instead. Good Luck! And Avery is so adorable. Every picture I see she looks like a professional kid model.

  13. Caleb likes to grab my lips and jaw and fish hook me. I try holding onto his hand, but that is not as entertaining as exploring mommy's face. I don't usually mind, but then when other people hold him, he grabs at their face too.
