Since its snowing and cold still, and since I was feeling sew-ish, I bought this pattern on Etsy and invited myself over to my friend Al's house for a good old fashioned sewing bee (Is there such a thing? I think there is.) Nothing like a springy little pastel top to make things seem like daffodils and tulips. Really I just wanted and excuse to use those cute buttons I bought last year.
So here's why I recommend this pattern. Sewing-- even simple patterns-- always takes longer, and is more frustrating than you think (actual blood was shed in the process...Anne remember when Blaine grabbed the rotary cutter...turns out its absolutely Avery's favorite toy...good thing I was at my pediatrician's house!). And when you spend time on something its nice when it can last...for a little while anyway. Since this little shirt has generous arm holes, it can be worn now as a dress, and then next year as a shirt, and in between with a little white onesie and some pants underneath. And while its absolutely "home-made" looking, it was made with Love! And I'd like it to at least hang around her closet for more than the 4 month stint most of her clothes get.
It's so fun having a sewing friend who shares my love of fabric , and who let's me show up, makes lunch, and watches my baby while I sew a bit (we took turns). Thanks Al!
