4th of July

better 1 month late than never...

6:30 am Provo Freedom Festival Hot Air Balloon Launch.

Balloons were not actually launched due to high winds. Thankfully my children are too young to know the difference.

9:00am Parade.

These people take their patriotism seriously.
Fun had by all thanks to overcast skies and giant sno-cones.

11am- 9pm ate flag cake + watermelon, napped, did yard work.

9pm watched fireworks from the trunk of our car.

Best seat in the house. Plenty of skittles and twix to go around.

Bonus that we had quite a fireworks show driving to the fireworks show courtesy of the good folks of Alpine who zealously participated thanks to the newly lifted ban on aerial fireworks in these parts.

Sometimes...

...I take pictures of the dinner I make (only the pretty ones) because its the only proof that I accomplished anything tangible that day. I know I actually accomplish many things (keeping children alive etc.) but boy there are days when I go to bed with the exact same to do list looming as the day before, with not a dent made in it.

I am OK with that, but sometimes its nice to be able to look at something you did. I think that's mostly why I blog. Do you ever feel that way?

How was your Summer Solstice? We had planned on a party (marshmallows+ fire equals a party in our house) under twinkly lights in the backyard but the power in our neighborhood was out most the day, so instead we had dinner out and a trip to Home Depot.

But it was just fun to be all together in the light of the day.

Busy About the Business of Summer

Avery has been doing a lot of frolicking in the fields and painting in her jammies.
I have been doing a lot of weeding.
Both our souls are content.

Happy Summer

Lake Powell

I was going to post photos from our recent Lake Powell trip, but since my sister Vanessa already did, and I am generally lazy, I'll just point you in her direction should you care to see them.

Jane's wedding week

Last week we were in Seattle for my husband's sister Jane's wedding. We had a fabulous time, and I wanted to share a few of our pictures. There are so many though...I think I'll post a few each day.

outside the restaurant...enjoying the view

Jane's new in-laws were kind enough to take us all out to dinner the night be fore the wedding at a great restaurant down by the Kirkland water front. We had a really fun time! All of the waiters and waitresses kept coming over to ogle at Avery. She was being especially charming that night. It's amazing how a darling baby can get a complete stranger to be your instant friend. I love it! I think the owner wanted to take her home in a doggy bag.

who wouldn't want to snatch this girl right up?

So we kind of have a do-it-yourself tradition when it comes to wedding flowers in the Wilson family. For Jane's wedding they decided to have a florist put together all of the big pieces as well as bouquets etc, but we were going to do the centerpieces. Well I happened to be suffering from a mean bout of mastitis that afternoon, and so was no help at all to Colleen. Trav and Marc jumped right in to do their part though...and I have to say, did a great job! Plus come on, boys arranging centerpieces...pretty cute!

Also, as a bit of an update to the post below, check this out.
I got a second chance to meet the blog friend I was to chicken to say hello to (Rachael it was you!). It turns out we are both big fans of Nienie's and met up at the balloon launch in Provo Saturday night. I didn't bring my camera (dumb!) but Rachael did. And she even let us launch one of her balloons after so many people showed up that they ran out of balloons to sell. Thanks again!

summer swim

I was going to do a whole post about our fun Pioneer Day but ever since I installed a new version of iphoto I have been having trouble blogging photos. I am sure I just need to change some setting or something...but alas I am no computer wiz, so that will take time.

Until then, this is Avery in her cute swimsuit enjoying her first swim. We had to take her at night (it was still 89 degrees) so her delicate skin wouldn't burn. She takes after me ;)

I don't know why we think it's so funny. I guess because she is our first baby, and we think that every little move she makes is magical and enchanting. We are easily entertained.
