Blue Bonnet

For Easter, I desperately wanted to have a bonnet for Avery. But who knew a bonnet would be so hard to find? So though she didn't have one for Easter...I wasn't giving up.

I thought I'd just sew one, but can you believe...no pattern was to be found!

Not to be deterred... out came my pencil and craft paper and I sketched and cut away, bribing the darling to hold still! for fittings sake.

And by a miracle of miracles the pattern came together,

and the bonnet did too.

And now visions of ribbons and button trims and fun fabric combos are dancing through my head...

and did I mention its reversible?

So I am not making any promises (I have learned my lesson) as to when, but when I can get my act together I hope to have the pattern for all of you and your darling's little head too!

Because really...is there anything cuter than a baby girl in a bonnet?

  1. that is the biggest bonnet i have ever seen. those uv rays don't stand a chance at getting at her porcelain face. i would like some pictures of you bribing her.

also david would like one in blue.

well done, you never cease to amaze me. xoxo

  2. Sorry...I couldn't take a picture, bribe her, and measure her head all at once. But she did smash frosting into my carpet as pay back for fiddling with her her head all day.

tell David I'll make him one, but only if he'll hold still while being measured.

  5. Absolutely adorable!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I couldn't have found a cuter one! I am so proud of you and am so glad you are going to make copies. I really do think that will be a big success. You have brought bonnets back!
I will have to send that picture of you in one. You were only six months old but it would be fun to see you and Avery side by side. I don't know if I have one of Nessa. I know we have her on film in one when she was about Avery's age, maybe a little older.
Avery looks stunning. You really should submit that picture somewhere. The blue bow was brilliant, such a designer touch and it sets off her eyes so well.
Oh, and I promise to mail her little dress today. I think the lavender will coordinate, but knowing you,you probably have changeable bows for each colored outfit!

  6. Just looked at the pics again.....and saw how the book and dress coordinated. Such beautiful shots of her from the back view, all the little curls reminds me of your baby hair. The side and front views are darling too. You really are a great photographer too Danielle. The design elements are all there.
I really should stop, I am probably embarrassing you and now I am late for swim class! XO, Mom

  10. I think my Grandma might have a pattern if you want. It belonged to her Grandma who came across the plains. Just kidding!

It's so cute, almost as cute as the little girl wearing it!

Do you have a camera light? Or just a really well lit room where you take all your pictures? I'm always impressed with the lighting. It's something I'm never able to achieve!
