Before

I used to tell myself that if I got my kitchen sparkling clean, I'd reward myself with pretty flowers. When we designed this kitchen I'd made sure we had extra window ledges specifically for the purposes of setting potted flowers on them. The problem is, I have realized the promise of a pretty flower doesn't do much to spark my motivation. So... I this time i got the flowers first and then...something about having that bright little spot to look at makes me motivated to get things whipped into shape.

What motivates you? Or am I the only one who needs this much prodding to clean?

(by the way these primroses are really cheap as are the clearance Ikea pots they are sitting in. This whole thing cost well under $20.)

  1. Flowers inspire me too! Who wants to look at pretty flowers in a messy house right? I have some primulas in my house right now too.

Having people for dinner is pretty motivating too.

  2. I just bought a flat at Costco and put two red ones in an olive green pot in the kitchen. It did make me want to clean up the whole kitchen so the flowers wouldn't be lost in the mess!OX, mom

  4. Love that you left the dirty dishes in the shot. Keepin' it real (which many don't). The flowers are sweet!

  5. Primroses make me so happy. I have them on my front porch. Ug. I need some kitchen cleaning motivation. How bout if you come over and sit on my couch and chat with me while I clean?

  6. I clean when people are on their way over. I try to harness the power of vanity.

  7. I have two things that motivate me to clean. The first is when I'm having a party or friends over. The second is when it's so dirty that I don't want to walk barefoot in my own house.

  8. So know what you mean! Yes, need lots of motivation to clean, and having people over is definitely a big one for me. But I should try the flowers, thanks for the inspiration :)

  11. I've been meaning to leave a comment for a while now, but your green dishtowel fabric has finally given me the gumption to type! That's holli zollinger's wheat fabric line, yes?? I found it myself last week and have been drooling over all the varieties. I really want to get the light blue for a table cloth! But anyway - towels and fabric aren't really why I'm writing! It just made me laugh to see that print pop up on my reader! What I've been meaning to say is that it was so fun to follow/vote for your amazing creations with the run and play series! It put a little sparkle in my week to anticipate what you would come up with next! You are an amazing woman and seamstress and mother! thanks for sharing all the fun with us! Much love!
