Can someone please explain morning sickness to me? Because I don't get it. I do not understand how doing nothing but going from the couch to the toilet to throw up is helpful in growing a child. I don't! Oh and morning sickness is a big misnomer. It's all day sickness and sometimes middle of the night sickness. And it does not seem to get any better...ever. So I have pretty much resigned myself to the idea that for the next...what? four months? I will be doing nothing but throwing up. No cooking. No laundry. No dishes. No cleaning. Just couch to toilet. and back. make it stop.
Ok is that dramatic enough for you? I did have the thought today that by the next mother's and father's days, Trav and I will be. That's fun.
Yeah, I don't envy you the throwing up. I hope it gets better! My mom said she was sick most of the whole nine months... so that's probably what I have to look forward to! yay!
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry you're so sick!! If I lived there I would come clean your house and scrub your toilet so you at least had something sparkly to loose it in!
ReplyDeleteOh Kate that is such a nice offer but I would not wish that on anyone!! Trav is doing an excellent job on cleaning the house though.
ReplyDeleteOh...well, at least you're growing a baby in that upset tummy of yours. I mean, at least it's vomiting with a purpose, right. I hope it goes away soon. Oh, and me and Joshua Radin are getting along fabulously...thanks so much for making me a copy of that CD, I really love it. Every time I listen to it, I discover a new song to love (and play on repeat several times.)
ReplyDeleteI always feel the worst at night. If you are really throwing up that frequently, you might be a candidate for medication. You're a nurse, so maybe you know all about this stuff, but Zofran is a huge help for some people. I don't think morning sickness has a purpose, really, but it's just a result of the hormones -- one person called it "progesterone poisoning." So, so sorry you're having a tough time of it -- hopefully it will taper off. I always feel better around 13-14 weeks. If you are so sick that you're not getting any good nutrition, please call your doctor. One of my friends loses weight (like 10-15 lbs.) in her first trimester, and the pregnancies that she took anti-nausea medication resulted in bigger, much healthier babies. I'm a big fan of cold cereal when I feel queasy -- it doesn't seem icky, and isn't as bad as some things on the way back up. I always feel the worst when I'm hungry, so try to keep eating often if you can, if that seems to help. Sorry this comment is so long -- hope something I said will help :)
ReplyDeleteOh crappy! I don't have a ton of great advice for you. I threw up twice this time, but I did feel nauseous a lot of the first 3 months. I sucked on hard candy like jolly ranchers when I felt sick and for some reason, that helped. Oh, I hate to see you so miserable! Pregnancy was supposed to be fun right? I really hope you start to feel a little better!
ReplyDeleteOkay, that comment probably DID NOT make you feel better. What I meant to say is that I didn't have anything smart to say. Sorry!
